Frigidaire FFC0723GB - The Black Frigidaire Chest Freezer

Frigidaire FFC0723GBThe 7.2 Cu. Ft. Frigidaire FFC0723GB model, is only a size up from the 5.0 Cu. Ft. model which is the smallest in the Frigidaire chest freezer range.

Its most visible advantage is its color - it is black. It is therefore right up your alley if you have unique décor needs that are not quite met by the twin white 7.2 Cu. Ft. Frigidaire chest freezer.

It has dimensions (HxDxW) of 34 1/4 in x 23 1/4 in x 35 in. If you want to pick it up from the store rather than have it shipped to you, it will comfortably fit in the trunk of a small SUV. What's more, this Frigidaire chest freezer only occupies a small floor area.

It is also ideal for medium sized families of 2-4 which want to supplement their refrigerator freezer space or shop or cook less frequently. It is a great money saver as it enables you to stock up on grocery sales or buy in bulk working out to a smaller grocery bill. And, because, it stores up to 252 lbs of food, it reduces your trips to the grocery store.

The 7.2 Cu. Ft. Frigidaire freezer operates quietly and will not intrude into your home's peace and quiet.

Because this is not a very large freezer, it is affordable. At a regular price of only $319, you or your family don't have to forego those little luxuries in order to invest in this robust freezer.

The Frigidaire FFC0723GB also comes with a 1-year warranty. During that period, Electrolux, the freezer manufacturers, will meet the cost of repairing or replacing parts arising from defective materials or workmanship. Because this warranty is backed by a professional support team, you are virtually assured of a perfectly functioning freezer.

Frigidaire FFC0723GB Benefits

While the Frigidaire FFC0723GB is a basic freezer, it does a good job of freezing your food. It comes with the following features:

  • 2 lift-out storage baskets

  • A power indicator light

  • Adjustable temperature control

  • A defrost drain

2 StorMor lift-out storage baskets are convenient for storing small or frequently used items. These are a good number, given that the 5.0 Cu. Ft. Frigidaire freezer comes with only a single basket.

If, however, the 2 baskets prove insufficient for your purposes, you should consider purchasing more baskets. These would be a good investment as it is faster and easier to locate items in a well-ordered freezer.

The handy power indicator light lets you know, at a glance, whether your freezer is receiving power. You are therefore able to take corrective measures to prevent food spoilage as soon as you notice that the indicator light is off.

An adjustable temperature knob lets you customize the temperature of your freezer. Turning your unit to the coldest setting 3 hours before freezing new food stops bacterial growth in the food and also locks in the natural juices. This therefore helps to preserve the color, texture and even flavor of the food.

This Frigidaire chest freezer model should be manually defrosted when 1/4 to 1/2 inches of frost build up, which should be every 12 months or so. A defrost drain at the base of the unit facilitates channeling run-off water out of the unit.

Tilting the unit towards the defrost drain will channel this water out, eliminating the hassle and health risks associated with lifting and overturning the unit. By fastening a hose adapter and garden hose to the drain, you can guide the run-off water into a sink. As the water run-off does not drain onto the floor, there is no messy floor to clean up after the defrosting exercise.

Review

There are hardly any consumer reviews on this product yet. Following is Freezer-Reviews.com's summary of the model's advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages

The Frigidaire FFC0723GB is small enough to fit in a`small room. It is great for small apartments and condos as it will not clutter them.

The Frigidaire 7.2 Cu. Ft. chest freezer is available in black. This is ideal for anyone with unique décor needs who does not want to settle for a white freezer. If, however, you'd rather have the 7.2 Cu. Ft. chest freezer in white, you should check out the FFC0723DW model.

Disadvantages

If you have a growing family, this model will in time prove to be too small and you may have to invest in a bigger chest freezer in a few years.

This freezer model is not lockable. So, if you need a lock and keys to child-proof your freezer or control who acceses your freezer contents, this is probably not the right model for you.

The Frigidaire FFC0723GB is not Energy Star qualified meaning that it is not one of the independently certified energy-efficient 7.2 Cu. Ft. chest freezers. However, cubic foot for cubic foot, chest freezers are far more energy efficient than uprights. Therefore, even though the model is not Energy Star qualified, it only consumes 279 kWh of electricity each year. This works out to an electric bill of about $2.50 a month, or $30 a year.

This chest freezer model must be manually defrosted when a 1/4 to 1/2 inch layer of frost builds up. While defrosting a freezer is a cumbersome exercise, it is necessary to ensure that your freezer continues to operate efficiently. This in turn keeps your electric bill down.

Conclusion

The Frigidaire FFC0723GB is the black counterpart to the white 7.2 Cu. Ft. chest freezer. While it is 44 percent larger than the 5.0 Cu. Ft. freezer, it is still a small chest freezer.

It is a good buy and is recommended for single people or small families with distinctive décor needs. Not only is it great for cashing in on grocery sales, it can save you the hassles of trooping to the grocery store or cooking frequently.
